Questions
to ask a breeder
Here
follows a guideline of the types of questions you can ask a
breeder:
~
How long has the breeder been breeding Corgis?
~ Is the breeder knowledgable about the breed?
~ Does he/she demonstrate a knowledge of the Corgi Breed Standard?
~ Does the breeder try to assist you in the understanding of
the breed?
~ Is the breeder involved in showing his/her dogs, and how successful
are they?
~ Before breeding, does the breeder have their stock x-rayed
for hip dysplasia?
~ If new to the breed, has the breeder researched the genetic
problems of hip dysplasia that may be in his/her lines?
~ Have the puppies been raised in the home, and can the breeder
guide you to the puppy most suitable for your lifestyle?
(Puppies raised in the home will have been properly socialised
with constant human contact. In such an environment, the breeder
is also able to watch and evaluate the puppy)
~ How often does the breeder have a litter?
(If the breeder has puppies several times a year, profit
could be a primary motive for breeding. Responsible breeders
breed only when there is a waiting list of suitable homes and
they more than likely want to keep a resulting puppy from a
certain breeding for their own breeding or showing purposes)
~ Are you able to meet the sire and/or dam of the resulting
litter?
~ Where did you find out about this breeder?
